# Node Usage

The **Usage** tab in the node inspector shows everywhere a node is used, so you can see what depends on it before you change or delete it.

## What the Usage tab shows

Select a single node in the model editor and open the **Usage** tab in the inspector. The tab groups where the node is used into three sections, each with a total count:

* **Models** — other nodes that reference this node in a formula or as a weight.
* **Shared Scenarios** — shared scenario runs that use the node.
* **Workspaces** — charts, line-items, and versions that use the node.

Each entry lists its **Name** and the number of **Uses**. Use the **Refresh** button to rebuild the report for the current state of the project.

## The full usage report

Select **View Full Usage** to open the **Node Usage** report — a full table of every reference, with columns for **Model**, **Referencing Node**, **Assumption Group / Sheet**, **Line-Item Name**, and **Used as**. The **Used as** column tells you how the node is used in each place:

* **Formula** — referenced in another node's formula.
* **Weight** — used as a weighting on another node.
* **Line-Item** — read by a line-item.
* **Chart** — plotted in a chart.
* **Version** — captured in a saved version.

In the report you can search for a specific entry, **Expand All** or **Collapse All** the sections, and turn on **Only deletion blockers** to narrow the list to the usages that stop the node from being deleted.

## Deletion blockers

Some usages prevent a node from being deleted and some do not. Formula and weighting references block deletion; usages such as charts and line-items are listed for reference but do not block it. The **Only deletion blockers** filter shows exactly which references you need to resolve first. When a section has usages but none of them block deletion, the report says **No Usages Prevent Deletion**.

## Good to know

* **Single node only:** the report describes one node at a time. Select a single node to see its usage.
* **Refresh for the latest:** a report can be marked **Potentially Outdated** after changes; select **Refresh** to rebuild it.
* **Access is respected:** usages you do not have the rights to see are shown as a restricted count rather than listed, and a node whose usage you cannot view at all shows **No Access**.

The node usage report groups references into `models`, `lineItems`, `charts`, `versions`, and `sharedScenarios`. Each referencing node carries `referenceKinds` (`formula` | `weighting`) and a separate `preventsDeletion` flag — a reference can be reported without blocking deletion (charts and line-items never block; formula and weighting references do). Usages the caller cannot access are returned as counts in `restrictedCounts`, not as entries.
