Chart Filter
Chart filters are the third level of filters available in a workspace.
Chart filters can be used to restrict the view in your chart so that they only display a subset of data.
Every level used as one of the axes automatically gets a filter holding all of its values. Filter values are always chosen from a checkbox tree, so a filter can hold one value or many.
What does differ is whether a filter is dynamic or fixed:
- While all values of a level are selected, the filter is dynamic. It is not stored as a fixed list, so values added to that dimension later are included automatically.
- The moment you deselect a single value, the filter freezes to the values you have ticked. New level values are then left out until you edit the filter.
To limit the number of values on your axis, you can restrict the filter. You can always add a new filter by pressing the “Add Filter” button in the ‘Manage Filters’ dialog and selecting the dimension and level for the new filter.
When you select the dimension and level for a new filter, the level picker includes a search box at the top. Start typing to narrow the list: it matches dimension names first, so matching a dimension keeps all of its levels, and otherwise matches level names. Matching is case-insensitive, and dimensions with no matching levels are hidden.
Chart filters are limited by the applied workspace and worksheet filters. A workspace or worksheet filter only affects a chart whose data carries the filtered level; see Workspace Filter.
A filter also changes which data ends up in the calculated result, so a filter you set can be refused by your data permissions even though the unfiltered chart was fine. If the result disappears with a “Denied access” or “Denied permission” error, see troubleshooting data permissions.
